Corporate Offices
Hospitals and public buildings
Range from large corporate offices to small clinics.
Such as Grundfos, Bank of Maharashtra, Dental clinics, etc.
Here too as in residences success of a design lies in the detailing.
Many of these have been successful competition entries.
Such as Port Trust building in Goa, Vestas Wind Energy in Chennai to name a few.
Emphasis on Green Architecture.
Recently Architect Badawe and his daughter Vineeta have completed green projects as Grundfos AG and Vestas Wind Energy in Chennai.
Grundfos, a Danish manufacturer of centrifugal pumps, has been given the 'Gold' rating by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Chennai unit of Vestas Wind Energy, that makes wind turbines also has passed scrutiny for a similar category.
 Client's List :
Mohan Breweries & Distilleries Limited. Areva T & D
LM Glasfibre (India) Ltd., Bangalore. IKEA

Vestas Wind Energy makes windmills, and the company required the design to reflect the philosophy of a manufacturer of alternative source of energy. The land chosen was a coconut groove in Chennai. The three-axial plan of the project is inspired by the geometry of the windmill, including the central hub that is a central area open in the design.

The design required knowledge and technology for insulated walls and energy efficient sandwich walls. The three wings also added walls space considerably.
All this added to the costs. Innovative solutions throughout in response to this included, the use of granite as a plinth insulation, rolling landscapes, earth filing, transplantation of uprooted trees and ample skylight. The form also saves many trees from the axe.

Vestas Wind Energy's 60000 Sq. ft. built space on a spread of 5.5 acres was completed in a record of seven months. The building's energy efficient design reduces energy costs by almost 30 percent.
This is a Danish company that manufactures centrifugal pumps. The designers were familiar with the concept now, and submitted a proposal that entailed the design for a long building, organic in form but with circles and ellipses as staircases and roof punctures. There were blue and green courtyards, water walls and vaulted roofs. Initially, even energy efficient and high air conditioning and electrical equipment was included.

The building revolves around light. How sunlight affects people, how light travels from windows, from vertical and inclined glass walls, linear and pyramidal skylights and so on. The building's light interiors
allow for no heavy concrete staircases. Integrated courtyards invite nature, people and winged visitors.

The Grundfos building recycles every drop of water. Under the landscape, a layer of eco-gel reduces water consumption to half. Common areas and toilets are fitted with occupancy and movement sensors that control the artificial lighting, ensuring that no one is without daylight or view.

The building management systems are integrated in the design. Task lights are provided at each workstation so that the person working late night does not have to switch on the general lighting. Carbon di-oxide levels are controlled. Grundfos has invested in a thermal storage tank for its air conditioning requirements. The urinals are waterless and waste is segregated into dry and wet at the source. The building has a good fire protection system with fire alarms, fire rated doors and fire zones.

There is another dimension to the Grundfos building. The design is friendly towards physically challenged people. Though only a two storied building there is a Braille enabled lift. Every staircase has an option or a ramp or a lift. The switches or handles are placed at a lower level so that even a person on a wheelchair can access them. Even the handrails are designed for an easy grip.
